2025 Grenache Shiraz Mourvédre

At MyattsField Vineyards, we believe in the art of blending as a means to create wines that are greater than the sum of their parts. Our GSM blend is a testament to this philosophy, showcasing the harmonious interplay of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre.

The Grenache grapes used in this blend were sourced from an old vine vineyard in the Swan Valley, bringing with them a depth and complexity that is characteristic of their age. The Shiraz, sourced from the Perth Hills, added a peppery spice and structure to the blend.

To enhance the integration of flavours and textures, the Grenache and Shiraz were co-fermented in open-top fermenters, allowing for a natural exchange of aromas and tannins. The resulting wine was then matured in a combination of oak barrels and ceramic eggs, each vessel imparting its own unique character to the final product.

The finishing touch came with the addition of Mourvèdre, a grape known for its dense tannins and dark fruit flavours. By carefully blending Mourvèdre into the Grenache-Shiraz base, we were able to add a layer of complexity and structure, creating a wine that is both approachable and age-worthy.

The result is a GSM blend that is a true expression of the terroir of Western Australia. With its vibrant aromas of red fruits, spice, and earth, and its silky texture, this wine is a delight to the senses. Whether enjoyed with a hearty meal or savoured on its own, our GSM blend is sure to impress.

Uplifted notes of red berries, such as raspberry and strawberry greet the nose, complemented by subtle hints of spice. The palate is rich and textured, with vibrant flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum. The Grenache (55%) contributes a lovely red fruit sweetness, while the Shiraz (36%) adds a touch of pepper and earthiness. The Mourvèdre (9%) provides a firm structure and a lingering finish. The wine is medium-bodied with balanced acidity and tannins.

“What a cracking good wine this GSM blend is. The varieties were well suited to this season, which was quite gentle in many ways, producing vibrant, high-energy fruit with lovely perfumes. And this one is all you want with this combination. Lovely floral red fruits, a little rose petal and a touch of spiciness all work together. The palate is quite plush, albeit medium-bodied and so perfectly integrated. It’s a wine of complexity and vibrancy and hits every mark you want with the combination.” 96 Points- Ray Jordan
