2024 Grenache Shiraz Mourvédre

At MyattsField Vineyards, we believe in the art of blending as a means to create wines that are greater than the sum of their parts. Our GSM blend is a testament to this philosophy, showcasing the harmonious interplay of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre.

The Grenache grapes used in this blend were sourced from an old vine vineyard in the Swan Valley, bringing with them a depth and complexity that is characteristic of their age. The Shiraz, sourced from the Perth Hills, added a peppery spice and structure to the blend.

To enhance the integration of flavours and textures, the Grenache and Shiraz were co-fermented in open-top fermenters, allowing for a natural exchange of aromas and tannins. The resulting wine was then matured in a combination of oak barrels and ceramic eggs, each vessel imparting its own unique character to the final product.

The finishing touch came with the addition of Mourvèdre, a grape known for its dense tannins and dark fruit flavours. By carefully blending Mourvèdre into the Grenache-Shiraz base, we were able to add a layer of complexity and structure, creating a wine that is both approachable and age-worthy.

The result is a GSM blend that is a true expression of the terroir of Western Australia. With its vibrant aromas of red fruits, spice, and earth, and its silky texture, this wine is a delight to the senses. Whether enjoyed with a hearty meal or savoured on its own, our GSM blend is sure to impress.

Uplifted notes of red berries, such as raspberry and strawberry greet the nose, complemented by subtle hints of spice. The palate is rich and textured, with vibrant flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum. The Grenache (55%) contributes a lovely red fruit sweetness, while the Shiraz (36%) adds a touch of pepper and earthiness. The Mourvèdre (9%) provides a firm structure and a lingering finish. The wine is medium-bodied with balanced acidity and tannins.

A soft and slurpy, rich red of dark, forest-berry fruitiness, lush perfume, big flavour, dusty finish. Super-easy drinking in its style, this is an open-weave, bolder red of warmth and generosity, perhaps just a little peaky in acidity, but the general gist is of pleasure and plumpness, done well.””.- 89 Points Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion

Highly fragrant and quite beautifully perfumed aromas greet immediately on this thoroughly engaging blend. The oak influence is deliberately underplayed with fermentation in a mix of oak and ceramic egg. The combination of varieties brings a mix of dark and lifted red fruits together with that mourvedre producing a nice spicy dried herb edge on the finish. 94 Points – Ray Jordan
