2016 CABERNET SAUVIGNON/CABERNET FRANC/ MERLOT

91 Points 2019 Halliday Wine Companion/Ray Jordan
Robust, full bodied dry Red

THE STORY

The art of blending is a philosophy at Myattsfield and this Grionde style blend is a great example. From Cabernet Sauvignon we take the ripe and generous upfront blackberry and raspberry flavours, filling and broadening the palate middle with the soft plush plummy fruits of Merlot and lifting the nose with the delicate sweet and spicy aromatics of Cabernet Franc. All three varieties share primary fruit flavours within the same spectrum to ensure the blends harmony but each brings with it a particular strength that together help to build a more complete wine.

TASTING NOTES

Lifted elegant aromatics of dark fruits, mulberry, cassis with subtle spicy notes and dusty oak. The palate is firm with soft velvety tannins and an elegant acidity. Mulberry and plum flavours dominate the palate and the finish is long and warming.

Fruit for this blend was sourced from the Perth Hills and Manjimup wine regions of Western Australia.

Cabernet Sauvignon (66%) providing the backbone of the blend with Merlot (12%) used to soften and fill the mid palate and Cabernet Franc (22%) contributing lifted aromatics and length. The result is a wine of great flavour, structure and finesse that can be cellared with confidence. A mixture of both French and American oak was used, typically as 2-3 year old hogsheads.
