Introducing Myattsfield Vineyard and Winery

Myattsfield is the vineyard/winery of young winemakers Josh Davenport and Rachael Robinson. Established in 1997, it encompasses two vineyards and a 40 tonne winery in the picturesque Bickley and Carmel Valleys of the Perth Hills wine region.

The Myatt Story
Horticulture is nothing new for the Davenport family with links to the cultivation and propagation of horticultural crops dating back to the 1800’s.
Joseph Myatt first began market gardening at Mannor Farm, Kent in 1818. In 1852 his son, James Myatt, moved the business to Camberwell, South London before urban encroachment forced the family to move again in 1876 to Offenham, Gloucestershire.
The Myatts were renown for their Rhubarb, Strawberries, Cabbage and Mangolds, winning trophies that date back to 1868. Myatts “Offenham Compacta”, an early harvest spring cabbage, can still be found on the shelves in England and public reserves in Camberwell and Lambeth still bear the family name.
In 1906 Frank Myatt (Joseph’s grandson) and his wife, Rosa, left Gloucestershire for Australia, setting up market gardens the southwest region of Harvey.
Myattsfield’s flagship wine, the “Joseph Myatt” Reserve, commemorates the family’s founding horticulturalist.

The Vineyards
The Perth Hills wine region is characterised by its warm days and cool nights. We have taken inspiration from regions in Portugal and Spain with similar climatic conditions when selecting varieties such as Mourvedre, Verdelho, Touriga nacional, Durif (first private planting in W.A.) and Brown Muscat. In addition we also grow the more traditional varieties Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Wines
We produce a wide range of wine styles from sparkling to fortified (primarily to satisfy our winemaking urges). As well as working with the varieties we grow, we also keep an eye out for interesting parcels of fruit. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Semillon, Tempranillo and Pedro Ximinez have become regulars. Members of our “Left Field” wine club are privy to the more unusual and exclusive batches. Please visit our wines page for more information on our wines, or place an order.

Cellar Door
In 2006, after almost a decade of establishing vineyards in the Bickley and Carmel Valleys, we began construction of the winery and cellar door. Located on the Bickley Valley Wine trail (www.bickleycarmeltourism.jkwh.com)it is just 30 mins from Perth’s CBD. From the tasting room, expansive views of the vineyard and valley as well as a peak into the inner sanctum of the winery await.
Behind the bar medals won at various wine shows sit along side some of the exquisite trophies awarded to the Myatts family more than 130 years before.
Myattsfield is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Public Holidays from 10am-5pm.
